International Baccalaureate
International Baccalaureate in Jeffco
The International Baccalaureate (IB) program was founded in 1967 to provide a rigorous, well-rounded education for students throughout the world. The IB prepares students for adulthood by enhancing skills in creativity, critical thinking, technology and international understanding.
Students may earn college credit for the IB exams by scoring a four or higher. Students who complete the IB Diploma Programme shall, at a minimum, receive 24 semester credits. These credits can apply to general education, elective or major requirements (at the institution’s discretion). The credit is guaranteed to transfer but it’s not guaranteed to apply to degree requirements. Please contact the colleges you wish to attend to see how your IB scores will be accepted.
International Baccalaureate (IB) at Dakota Ridge High School
Dakota Ridge High School is proud to be an International Baccalaureate Programme School. Dakota Ridge offers two IB options for students. All DRHS juniors and seniors are invited to become a part of the IB Programme at Dakota Ridge, either as diploma candidates or certificate students.
Read below to learn more about the two IB options for DRHS students.
IB Diploma Pathway
The IB diploma pathway is for students who are interested in pursuing the IB Diploma in 11th and 12th grade.
Benefits of earning an IB Diploma can include:
- College or university tuition savings
- Nationally and internationally recognized
- Broad, balanced curriculum and much more
Students considering the IB Programme for their junior year can complete the form indicating their interest in the IB program as incoming ninth- and 10th-graders.
Students can also read the “Enrollment and Admission” section to get more information on becoming a part of the IB community at Dakota Ridge.
For questions regarding the IB program at DRHS, please contact the IB Coordinator, Holly Davis at hdavis@jeffco.k12.co.us or 303-982-8956.
IB Certificate Classes
The second pathway option is the chance to take classes on an “a la carte” basis. This means that all juniors and seniors are invited to take the IB classes of their choice, without the commitment of doing the full diploma program. The following classes are available to all upperclassmen students:
- IB Language and Literature
- IB Spanish, French or German
- IB History
- IB Biology
- IB Chemistry
- IB Physics
- IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science
- IB Math Applications and Interpretations
- IB Math Analysis and Approaches
- IB Visual Arts

All of these classes are available to juniors and seniors, and all offer the chance to earn college credit! Learn more about earning college credit for IB classes in the state of Colorado.
